Homework

Homework will begin w/c 15.9.2025 to allow those children taking the 11+ time to prepare

Spellings will be sent home weekly - these include some useful ways to practice on the back, but please use any strategies that help as every child learns differently.

This site has some useful ideas: Spelling Strategies

We will test children each week, so please ensure they have their spelling sheet in school on a Thursday so they can cross off the words they got correct. This allows you to continue to practise any incorrect words at home.

Reading is something we absolutely love in Sapphire class. Children can show us what they're reading by talking about it in our weekly 'Book Chat' lesson on a Friday, journal about it in their homework book using the sheet here for ideas, or if they'd prefer to simply log it in their reading record that is fine too.

My Maths is our online maths homework tool - a task will be set each week on there for children to access (sometimes they will be given a link to an alternative website for this, but it will still be set via MyMaths). Maths is set on a Friday and due in by Wednesday evening. This allows us time on Thursday or Friday to check any misconceptions the children are having.

Topic Grid - this provides children with a range of activities that span different learning techniques and different areas of the curriculum. These are linked with our topic. Children should aim to complete one a week and bring this in when it is done. We understand that busy lives mean that children in one class cannot all complete homework on the same day, so this should give some flexibility to suit your family as to when it is handed in.

Communication

We work best as a team - please speak to us to celebrate your child's successes, share any worries or ask any questions.

If there is anything you're uncertain about, please do make an appointment to chat to us, send an e-mail via the office, or if it's a very quick question, catch us on the school gate/playground.
